Acting Classes

Have you always wanted to pursue acting but didn't know how to begin? Are you a professional actor frustrated by classes that don't make you a better, more employable actor? We offer very focused but fun classes for beginners, for intermediate actors (perhaps transitioning from another area of the arts), and for advanced professionals. Each six week session ends with an opportunity to showcase your work to a NYC casting director.

Focused & Fun

In the six week intro class you will work on your cold reading, script analysis and monologue skills in a supportive but honest environment. The final class of each session is an audition workshop (students perform a scene and a monologue) for an A-list casting director. All classes are "team-taught" by professional NY actors and teachers Rob Sedgwick (School of Visual Arts faculty) and Catherine Russell (NYU faculty). All classes taught on an Off-Broadway theater stage at
The Theater Center on Broadway at 50th Street.

what we do

Sedgwick Russell provides media training for:

  • On-air performance
  • Public speaking and presentations
  • Sales pitches for products or funding
  • Job interviews*

*with a special emphasis on preparing millennials with interviewing skills for the all important first job out of college - over 80% of Sedgwick-Russell clients who internalize and apply what they have learned in a final job interview receive job offers.

how we do it

Rob and Cathy help people identify their true selves - their best qualities - and then integrate them more fully into their public speaking, on air appearances or interviews. Most traditional training session focus on what the individual is doing wrong - Sedgwick-Russell focuses on what makes the individual unique and what he/she cares about. If you can feel connected and passionate about a topic, you will stop worrying about where to put your hands or smiling too much. Then you will appear confident, assured and articulate to other people either in a room or in front of a camera.

Each session is designed a little differently to reflect the specific needs and personality of the client. Rob and Cathy utilize improv and acting techniques to help people improve their communication skills - and find the joy in talking about what you love.

Most Americans say that public speaking is their number one fear - Sedgwick-Russell can make speaking to a group of people, an interviewer or in front of a camera effective and  fun.
